Malibu sensor fitment and positions
Start with your generation: 2001-2003, 2004-2007, 2008-2012 or 2013-2015. The 2004-2007 Malibu Maxx can use different harness routing and hub parts from the sedan, and hybrid models from 2008-2010 should be checked separately. Some listings here are cataloged for Malibu Classic trims with four-wheel disc ABS.
Pick the corner next. Sensors and harnesses here are sold for front left, front right, rear left and rear right, and left and right are not automatically interchangeable. On 2008-2015 cars the rear sensor is often built into the rear hub and bearing, so you may need a hub instead. Compare the connector, lead length and mounting with your original part.
Signs of a bad Malibu ABS sensor
The usual signs are the ABS light, the traction control light or a Service StabiliTrak message, with those systems switched off until the fault is fixed. Some cars also disable cruise control or feel odd when braking at low speed.
A code tells you which wheel circuit has a problem, not that the sensor is bad. Codes such as C0045 and C0050 point to the left rear and right rear circuits. Broken or corroded wiring, a damaged connector, debris on the hub encoder ring or a worn wheel bearing can all set the same code, so check them first.
Sensor, harness or hub
On several front applications here the part is a wheel speed sensor wire harness, such as the Dorman 970-008 and 970-009, which replaces the lead along with the sensor connection. Where the rear sensor is part of the hub, the repair is a hub and bearing assembly, which is a bigger job.
Before you fit a new sensor, clean the encoder ring and the mounting bore, and route the new harness in the original clips so it cannot rub or stretch. Most listings are for one corner, not a pair. After installation, clear the ABS codes and check live wheel speed readings or road test the car.

Malibu questions
Is the rear ABS sensor part of the hub on a 2008-2015 Malibu?
On many 2008-2015 Malibu applications the rear wheel speed sensor is integrated into the hub and bearing assembly. Check the fitment table, and order a hub if your car has no separate rear sensor.
Does a Malibu Maxx use the same ABS sensor as the sedan?
Not always. The 2004-2007 Maxx can use different harness routing and hub parts from the sedan. Select your body style in the fitment table before you order.
How many ABS speed sensors does a Chevy Malibu have?
Malibu models generally have four, one at each wheel. On some years the rear sensors are built into the hub. Listings here are mostly sold one corner at a time, so check the position.
