Equinox fuel pump fitment

Fuel pumps follow the engine and generation. The 2005-2009 Equinox generally used a 3.4L V6. The 2010-2017 model offered a 2.4L four-cylinder, a 3.0L V6 and a 3.6L V6. The 2018 and later Equinox moved to 1.5L and 2.0L turbo engines. Listings here name engine codes such as LEA, LAF and LYX, so check the engine and VIN code on your vehicle.

FWD versus AWD can also change the module or lines. Some listings carry a position such as right, primary or secondary, so pick the one that matches your fitment table. On the 3.6L there is also an engine-mounted high-pressure pump, which is a different part from the in-tank pump.

Signs of a failing Equinox pump

A weak pump lowers fuel pressure and volume. You may notice hard starting, a no-start, stalling, hesitation, sputtering or poor acceleration, especially under load. A check engine light can come on as pressure drops, and a louder hum or whine from the tank area is a common early warning.

None of these symptoms proves the pump has failed. Check the fuse, relay, wiring and actual fuel pressure first. On 2010-2017 models with the 3.6L, a lean code such as P0175 has been traced to the engine-mounted high-pressure pump rather than the tank pump, so diagnose before you buy.

Module or pump only

Read what each listing includes. A complete module usually brings the sender, housing, strainer and tank seal, while a pump-only part means you rebuild your old housing. Compare the connector, fuel line fittings, mounting flange and lock ring with your original.

Disconnect the battery and relieve fuel pressure before you start, and work in a ventilated area away from sparks. Depending on the vehicle, you reach the pump through an access cover or by lowering the tank. Replace the strainer and tank seal, and any damaged lock ring. Afterward, prime the system, start the engine and check the module and lines for leaks.

Equinox questions

Is the high-pressure fuel pump the same as the tank pump on a 3.6L Equinox?

No. The 3.6L uses an in-tank pump module plus a separate high-pressure pump mounted on the engine under the intake. They are different parts with different jobs, so confirm which one has failed before you order.

Does a 2010-2017 Equinox fuel pump fit a 2018 or newer model?

No. The 2018 Equinox is a new generation with different engines and fuel system parts. Match your exact year, engine code and drive type against the fitment table.

What should I replace with an Equinox fuel pump?

Replace the strainer and the tank seal, plus the lock ring if it is damaged. If your vehicle has a serviceable external fuel filter, replacing it at the same time is common practice.
