Dodge Ram 2500 Brakes

Buy Dodge Ram 2500 brakes online for 1999-2008 trucks. This page lists 16 front and rear rotors, pad sets and pad and rotor kits from $41.97 to $447.02, with Centric, EBC, Pronto, DuraGo, API and TRQ among the brands. Heavy-duty Rams use several rotor sizes and rear brake designs, so the fitment table on each product is worth a close look.

Brake fitment by generation

The 1999-2002 Ram 2500 and the 2003-2008 trucks use different brake parts, and you should not assume they interchange. Even within the older trucks, 1999-2000 fitment can differ from 2001-2002, and rear disc brakes arrived around the 2000 model year.

Front parts also change with 2WD or 4WD, axle and rotor diameter. One 1999 listing calls out a 318mm front rotor tied to an 8,800 lb GVW rating. Engine, GVWR and brake package often matter more than trim. Check your VIN, build date and drive type, and measure the old rotor's diameter and thickness if the catalog data seems to conflict.

Signs your Ram needs brakes

Listen and feel for squealing or grinding, a pulsing pedal or steering wheel, vibration when you stop, pulling to one side, a soft or low pedal, or a brake or ABS warning light. On a heavy truck that tows, worn pads, thin or rusted rotors, heat damage and sticking calipers are the usual causes.

Some of those symptoms can come from wheel bearings, tires, suspension or hydraulics instead, so inspect before you order. Rotors with a heavy rust lip or that are under minimum thickness should be replaced, not reused.

Kits, single parts and setup

A pad set covers both wheels on one axle. Pad and rotor kits, like the Centric and TRQ front and rear kits here, usually cover both sides of the axle. Rotors are often sold singly, and some, like the Centric front left rotor, are side-specific.

Replace pads and rotors together when the rotors are worn or damaged. Clean and lubricate the caliper slide pins with brake lubricant, replace torn boots and worn hardware, and use the torque specs for your exact axle. Support the truck on jack stands, and bleed the brakes if you open the hydraulic system.

Ram 2500 questions

Do 2WD and 4WD Ram 2500 trucks use the same front rotors?

Often not. Front rotors and related parts commonly differ by drivetrain, axle and rotor diameter on these trucks. Choose your drive type and confirm the rotor size in the fitment table before ordering.

Does my 1999-2002 Ram 2500 have rear disc brakes?

It depends on the build. Rear discs arrived around the 2000 model year, and some catalogs tie them to trucks built after July 1, 2000. Check your VIN and look behind the rear wheel to confirm.

How many brake pads do I need for my Ram 2500?

One pad set per axle. A set covers both the left and right wheels on that axle, so you need two sets to do the front and rear. A front and rear kit covers both axles.
