Parts for your Dodge Ram 2500
Buy Dodge Ram 2500 transmission filters online for 1996-2010 trucks with an automatic. The list has 12 filters and filter kits from $10.98 to $47.20, by WIX, ATP, Hastings, API, AC Delco and Pronto. The filter follows the transmission, not the cab or trim, so find out whether your truck has a 46RE, 47RE, 48RE, 545RFE or 68RFE first.

Ram 2500 trucks from 1996-2010 used several automatics. The 1996-2002 trucks commonly used the 46RE or 47RE, depending on the engine. Later trucks used the 48RE behind many 5.9L Cummins engines and the 545RFE behind gas engines such as the 5.7L V8. Fitment samples here also include the 46RE behind the 5.2L V8 and the 8.0L V10, and the 2010 trucks list the 68RFE behind the 6.7L Cummins.
Cab, bed, trim, suspension and 2WD or 4WD do not change the filter when the transmission is the same. Manual transmission trucks do not use these filters. Check the tag on the transmission or use your VIN, and compare the pan and filter shape.
Most owners change the filter during a fluid service, and more often when the truck tows, hauls heavy loads, runs hot or works in severe duty. Over time, worn clutch and band material and broken-down fluid load the filter, and a clogged filter can starve the pump.
Delayed engagement, slipping, harsh or erratic shifts, noise and overheating can follow, but a new filter is not a cure for those. Low fluid, valve body, solenoid and pump problems cause them too. If you find a lot of friction material or metal in the pan, have the transmission checked before you refill it.
Most listings here are filter kits from WIX, ATP, Pronto and AC Delco, and kit contents vary. Check whether the gasket, O-ring or seal is included. On a 68RFE, there is a pan filter and a separate spin-on filter, so make sure you buy what that service calls for.
Drain the fluid, remove the pan, and clean the pan and magnet. Fit the new filter with a fresh seal and use a new pan gasket rather than reusing a hard one. Tighten the pan bolts by hand to the spec and sequence in the service manual. Refill with the fluid your transmission specifies and check the level at the correct temperature.

Yes, when the transmission model is the same. The filter is matched to the transmission, such as the 46RE, 48RE or 545RFE, not to the drivetrain. Check your transmission in the fitment table.
Yes. The 68RFE uses a pan filter and a separate spin-on filter. Some listings sell them separately and some as a package, so read the contents before ordering.
Many kits do, but contents vary. Some include a pan gasket and seal, while others are the filter only. Read the product details and order a gasket separately if needed.
