Body style decides the lamp
On the Ram 2500, the tail lamp follows the body style, not the engine or drivetrain. The 2003-2006 trucks share one basic lamp across regular cab, Quad Cab, Mega Cab, 2WD and 4WD. The facelifted 2007-2009 trucks use a different assembly, and several listings here are marked for 2007-2009 2500 and 3500 trucks including the Mega Cab. Some lamps are labeled late design.
The 2002 model year is grouped inconsistently in catalogs, so compare the shape of your lamp with the product photo. Standard bed lengths do not change the lamp, but a service bed or replacement bed may.
When a tail light needs replacing
Ram 2500 tail lights usually get replaced after a cracked or missing lens from loading or a rear-end hit. Water inside the lamp is the other big reason. Condensation and corrosion from a failed seal can make the brake, turn, running or reverse lights work only some of the time.
A dim or flickering lamp is not always the housing. Check the bulb, socket, fuse, connector and ground first. If the housing is cracked or full of moisture, replacing the assembly is the cleaner fix.
Fitting the new assembly
Most assemblies are sold one side at a time, though DIY Solutions and Anzo list sets. Confirm whether the lamp comes with bulbs and sockets or only the lens and housing, since contents vary.
To swap it, remove the retaining screws, pull the lamp straight back to release the guide pins, move the sockets over if needed and plug it in. Seat each socket gasket fully so water does not get in again. Replace corroded sockets or connectors while you are there, and test every function before you close up.

Ram 2500 questions
Do 2005 and 2008 Ram 2500 tail lights interchange?
No. The 2003-2006 trucks and the facelifted 2007-2009 trucks use different tail lamp assemblies. Select your year in the filter and confirm the lamp shape in the photos and fitment table.
Does the Ram 2500 Mega Cab use a different tail light?
Not as a rule. Several listings here cover the 2007-2009 2500, 3500 and Mega Cab with the same assembly. Check the fitment table on each product to confirm your cab.
Do Ram 2500 tail lights come with bulbs?
It depends on the listing. Some assemblies include bulbs and sockets, while others are only the lens and housing. Read the product details so you know whether to reuse your old bulbs.
