4WD and linkage style
On the Ram 2500, the steering damper is cataloged mainly by 4WD chassis, not by cab, bed, trim or engine. The 1996-2002 trucks are the second generation and 2003-2010 trucks the third. For both, 2WD fitment varies, so do not use a 4WD damper on a 2WD truck unless the listing confirms it.
The linkage matters too. Some 2003-2008 trucks use a stud-style damper mount, while later trucks and trucks with a later-style steering upgrade use a different attachment. Look at how your damper mounts before you buy, and if your linkage has been changed, use the damper made for that setup.
Signs of a worn damper
A worn steering damper may leak oil, have a dented body or a pitted shaft, or simply stop resisting movement. You may feel shimmy, kickback through the wheel, wandering, or more reaction to bumps.
A weak damper can add to front-end shake, sometimes called death wobble, on a solid-axle truck. It is rarely the only cause. Worn track bar, ball joints, tie rod ends, drag link, wheel bearings, alignment and tires all play a part, so inspect the whole front end before you expect a damper alone to fix it.
Fitting the new damper
Most trucks take a single front damper. Dual-damper kits need extra brackets and hardware, and some listings are part of a full steering upgrade. Rancho, Bilstein and Monroe each list dampers for the Ram 2500 here.
Before installing, check the track bar, ball joints, tie rod ends, drag link and steering box mounting. A new damper cannot hide play in those parts. Replace worn bushings, sleeves, nuts or U-bolts rather than reusing them. Tighten the fasteners to the factory or kit spec, then road-test the truck, and check the alignment if you replaced other steering parts.

Ram 2500 questions
Will a steering damper fix death wobble on my Ram 2500?
Rarely on its own. A damper can calm the shake, but the cause is usually worn track bar, ball joints, tie rod ends or linkage. Inspect the full front end before replacing the damper.
Does a 2WD Ram 2500 use a steering damper?
Most dampers here are cataloged for 4WD trucks. 2WD fitment varies, so do not assume a 4WD damper fits. Check the fitment table on each listing for your drivetrain.
Why does my 2003-2008 Ram 2500 need a specific damper?
Some of these trucks use a stud-style damper mount, while trucks with a later-style steering upgrade use a different attachment. Match the damper to the linkage on your truck.
